home is where the cat is

Exploring the idea of surburban and neighbourhood life, my 'book' is in the shape of a house that opens up to reveal vibrant and bright rooms inside of the house. I wanted to also explore the idea of windows, and looking into windows which reveal life and vitality. It was important to showcase the joys of living and being alive by depicting a house as the book, and small happiness such as pets who bring the house and neighbourhood together.
I used gouache to paint the rooms and windows on the inside of the book, and I also used prismacolour pencils and oil pastels to draw the details. The goal was to make the book simple yet bold at the front, hence the bold clean lines used to contour the shape of the house and windows, and then have the inside of the book to be line-less and completely filled with flat bright colours that infer to the celebration of life and living.
Please see below for a short flip-through video of the book!
